The Sanctuary

Our unique 24-hour wall-less street resource center serves over 1,500 participants annually—primarily Black and Brown unhoused or precariously housed, aging, and disabled individuals. Many of those individuals spend time in the Sanctuary nearly every day, creating an intimate community that is accustomed to welcoming newcomers along with us.

Comprising of sidewalk canopies, social areas featuring seating and tables and a blossoming Community Garden, the Street Sanctuary is a non-judgemental space where individuals can access safety, support and the tools they need to survive.

Our services include community events, access to medical care, overdose response, casework, wound care, system navigation, referrals and linkages, Narcan administration training and on-demand, non-coercive spiritual counseling from founder Pastor Blue.

We distribute harm-reduction supplies and education, bottled water, daily vitamins, hygiene kits and wound care materials around-the-clock at the Street Sanctuary and in the broader community through weekly outreach.

Our consistency in and fluidity with the community — where we know many individuals by name — has made us a trusted, accessible presence in the lives of our participants, who come to us not just for material resources but also conflict resolution, problem-solving and often just a listening ear.

The one-on-one support we provide addresses the emotional toll of compounded trauma and isolation, both of which are prominent in our community, and provides participants with a sense of connection and safety.

Perhaps most prominently, Blue Hollywood Street Sanctuary is a place of joy, where people can be seen playing Dominoes and cards, sharing food, reading or drawing with materials from our “tiny library” book cart, having deep discussions and dancing to music.

We invite you to come down and see us for yourselves!
